Introduction
Australia is a nation enriched by diversity of many different cultures. Promoting
intercultural dialogue, social harmony and cohesion in these diverse
multicultural communities in Australia is imperative.
In order to achieve an ideal harmony, there needs to be more concrete
relationships between the multicultural communities of Australia. Social
Cohesion, Social Harmony can only be attained by reaching out to all
members of Society. This can be achieved through social interaction,
community awareness programs, educational projects at all levels,
accurate information and community organisations working with
Government organisations, academics and the media. The Australian Intercultural Society was established with the intention of
playing a part in this noble cause. Our aims are:
- to promote the harmony of Australia's diverse cultural values on national and/or
international level.
- to promote and foster harmonious relations between different cultures and
members of different communities that
form the fabric of the Australian society.
- to encourage members of the community to achieve efficiency and promote high
ethical standards in education, business, industry, professions, public duties and private endeavours.
- to initiate, organize and/or sponsor educational projects.
- to raise
public awareness on social justice issues and to organize and plan various events and functions
such as international conferences, educational projects, arts festivals, places
of worship visits,
joint intercultural projects, Study Tours, Women's networks and various other public events.
- to enhance social cohesion and harmony through social interaction and
partnered projects.

Our Beliefs
The
Australian Intercultural Society (AIS), since its inception in 2000,
has been working tirelessly to engender community harmony and
inclusion by means of overcoming the discrimination and ignorance
that exists between communities, becoming a catalyst for a social
change. To date, it has engineered countless events and projects
aimed at fusing the Australian community harmoniously around the
concept of “understanding through interaction”. This model adopted
by the Australian Intercultural Society has been very successful in
introducing to Australian society a new version in the arena of
interfaith and intercultural relations.
Over the course of the last six years
the AIS has cemented great relationships with organisations and
individuals who have led their communities in widening their vision
and partaking in intercultural and interfaith activity exposing them
to the values and practices of people from diverse backgrounds.
The
AIS has focused on what makes people unite, concentrating on the
core values of humanity, and through their networks and campaigning
have elevated themselves to the forefront of the Australian sociol
inclusion platform.
To date, AIS has implemented numerous
social activities such as the International Abraham Conference
series, the establishment of university chairs and lectureships,
educational field trips to places of worship, observations of
religious occasions, cultural exhibitions, overseas study tours,
government sponsored projects, professional training programs and
interfaith journals, just name a few.
The organisation has brought
Australia a new framework of social interaction based on a yearly
planer devised by the board after careful consideration of projects
put before them through numerous channels.
