Deer Park Mosque Open Day

Once again, AIS invites Melbournians to take the opportunity to understand Islam through direct encounter with a Mosque and an information session designed to clarify many issues including certain misconceptions regarding Islam. The Mosque Open Day event is organised in a way that during the second half of the program, visitors are split into smaller groups in which they get the chance to ask questions.

The program includes a demonstration of the Muslim ritual prayer accompanied by a description of its significance, group tours highlighting the internal and external features of a Mosque, explanations of the central tenets of Islam as well as an opportunity for interaction between Muslims and the wider community over traditional food and refreshments. Such events serve to highlight the multitude of threads that cut across all faiths.

“There are differences to what I believe as a Christian but I realised that Torah, Quran and the Bible are quite similar in many ways,” said Frank from the Altona Christian Centre, at a previous Mosque Open Day. He concluded with the words, “We were always taught that there are many ways to God or in other words there are many vehicles you can take to reach God.”
