Each year, on the 17th of December,
the Australian Intercultural Society organizes a special Sema
ceremony offered by the Mevlevi Order of Australia to celebrate
Hazreti Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi’s ‘Sheb-i Arus’ or ‘Wedding Night’.
It is the traditional night in the modern era when the Mevlevi Order
of Sufis, the whirling dervishes, and the many lovers of Mevlana
celebrate and remember his union with his Beloved, ‘Wedding with
Eternity’. This year, the event will be held at Malvern Town Hall
and everyone is invited. |

March 2009, Istanbul Culture & Arts
Centre in collaboration with Melbourne
Young Businessmen Association launched
the first annual Anatolian Cultures &
Arts Festival at the beautiful
Docklands of Melbourne. The event was a
great success with over twenty
thousand participants. The AIS offers
logistic supports to this cultural event
which will again be held on the 26-27
February, 2011 at Waterfront City,
Docklands Melbourne.

On second of April
2011 the Australian Intercultural Society
organised the
Media & Values panel that aimed to bring to our attention the
importance of understanding the complex and dynamic relationships
between media and values, with a goal to deepen understanding and
respect for the varying ways modern societies negotiate mediating
information and sustaining humane communities, perhaps by cherishing
as many differences as commonalities. The event was held at Sidney
Myer Asia Centre, Melbourne University and
attracted an audience of three hundred people. |

Peter Barnett's launch
of a new book, "Guardian of the Flame", devoted
to the life and legacy of the great Turkish
religious scholar Said Nursi was held at
Melbourne university April 10 2011. The author
delivered a speech that included his experiences
during during an intense research which included
3,000 km journey through Turkey. Guests
were treated to delicious traditional finger
foods and refreshments during the program. At
the conclusion of the event Peter Barnett signed
his books for the many enthusiasts who attended
the launch.

The Intercultural Study Tour to Turkey is a part
of AIS's international Dialogue Project organized each year during
April and October. In 2011, the AIS is preparing to take the
8th VIP group to Spirit of Anzac Tour.
The Spirit of Anzac Tour 2011 will commence on
20th of April and conclude on the 4th of May. The tour includes a
protocol participation in the Anzac dawn services held each year at
Gallipoli.

The Australian Intercultural Society Women's
Network, in collaboration with women from
Muslim, Christian, Jewish and Buddhist groups
has organised a women's only interfaith dinner. The
theme of the evening was be 'Hand in hand for a
better future'. The event was held on May
28 2011, 7.pm at the Beletti Restaurant,
Punthill Apartments, 159 Lonsdale St, Dandenong.
There were short speeches from keynote
speakers representing each faith and dinner
accompanied by traditional music performances.

The Sunshine
Mosque in Melbourne’s western suburbs was the
states epicentre of interfaith activity on the
22 May. Members of Melbourne’s Christian, Jewish
and Muslim communities convened at the mosque
that has served as the host for many interfaith
events over the years. The event organised by
the Australian Intercultural Society in
conjunction with the Sunshine Mosque Committee,
saw the Mosque open its doors to the public with
an intention to educate people about the
particulars of a Mosque... |

The
Australian Intercultural Society is introducing
a new exciting series of luncheon forums
designed to cultivate friendship, celebrate
multiculturalism, promote dialogue, social
harmony and social inclusiveness and deepen
intercultural awareness among the many diverse
cultures of Australia. The speakers will include
government officials, media personalities,
community and faith leaders, academics and
diplomats who will share their views and
experiences on common issues of the world.
Luncheon Forums will commence in May 2011 and
continue on bi-monthly bases. The Australian
Intercultural Society will soon be sending out
the invitations. |
