The VII Annual International Abraham Conference |
![]() The seventh international Abraham Conference took place on the 19th of October 2008 at the central hall of the ACU National. Over a hundred and fifty guests attended the popular event which brings members of the three Abrahamic religions to address social and cultural problems faced by society today. This year's event focused on reconciliation with indigenous people of Australia, analyzing the reconciliation process proposed by the three Abrahamic religions. Main speaker on the night was Pat Dobson, Chairman of the Lingiari Foundation and Kimberly Development Commission. Pat Dobson emphasized on the problems faced by the Aboriginal people for so many years and said that there was a long way to go in the reconciliation process. Jewish responder, Mark Leibler stressed that the apology made by the government was a great development and that the Aboriginal people has a lot to offer to this nation. "The Aboriginal people have a unique culture which the Australian society would benefit from. It is amazing how they have preserved their culture for thousands of years" he said.
Prof. Greg Craven, Vice-Chancellor of ACU National, focused on the beauty of dialogue. Prof. Craven also stressed that there was a lack of support from the Australian media regarding faith and interfaith dialogue. Ergun Kirmaci, President of the Australian Intercultural Society concluded the evening with a vote of thanks and traditional Turkish gift presentation.
