WOMEN'S INTERFAITH DINNER

The Australian Intercultural Society Women's Network, in collaboration with women from Muslim, Christian, Jewish and Buddhist groups have organised an interfaith dinner for women, on the 28 May 2011. The event was held at Beletti Restaurant's function room, Dandenong. Opening speech was delivered by Cr Roz Blades, Mayor of Dandenong. The program continued with recitations from the Qur'an, Bible, Torah and Buddhist scriptures. Then it was dinner time. During the dinner women from different faiths and cultures found the opportunity to interact with each other and learn each others' customs and traditions.
The program continued with speeches by Cemen Polat (
PhD candidate at the School of Political and Social Inquiry) Monash University, representing the Muslim community, Dr Diana Cousens, representing the Buddhist community, Anne Seitz, (Senior Lecturer Discipline Leader, Sociology, Swinburne University of Technology), representing the Christian Community and Dana Krause (Senior Policy Officer and Lawyer, Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship in the Refugee and Humanitarian area), representing the Jewish community. The theme of the speeches was "Women of Faith: Hand in Hand for a Better Future".
One of the highlights of the evening was performances by Bollywood dance and Turkish Folklore dancers. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Fatma Kullu, President of AIS Women's Network.
After the conclusion of the program, all the guests received an olive branch along with a bookmark signifying the importance of peace and social interaction...
