Opening of Ramadan 2017 at AIS with 2nd Annual Ambulance Iftar Dinner

Australian Intercultural Society (AIS) in collaboration with Ambulance Victoria; Benevolence and United Muslims Migrant Association opened Ramadan 2017 with the second annual Ambulance Victoria Community Iftar Dinner.

The evening’s master of ceremonies was Danielle North Chief of Staff at Ambulance Victoria. Al Quaree Abu Aeimin from Doncaster Islamic Community gave the call to prayer and recited several verses from the Quran followed by welcome speeches Ken Lay AO, Chair of Ambulance Victoria and Associate Prof Tony Walker, CEO of Ambulance Victoria who spoke about the change he has seen in Ambulance Victoria over the last 30 years and Ambulance Victoria’s commitment to creating an Ambulance Victoria that reflects the diversity of the community it serves.

The guest speaker for the evening was the Dr Ahmad Aly, General Surgeon and Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at The Austin who gave an informative and entertaining speech titled “When fasting, surgery & sirens meet”. After dinner guest were treated to a performance by Sufi Music Group.

The evening concluded with audience members having the opportunity to share their reflections on the evening’s program followed by a vote of thanks from Ahmet Keskin Executive Director of AIS with an exchange of gifts.
