2017 Victoria University Iftar
Australian Intercultural Society (AIS) in collaboration with Victoria University (VU) hosted 80 guests at their third Ramadan Iftar at Victoria University’s VU at MetroWest community space on 31 May 2017.
The evening’s master of ceremonies was Dr Teresa De Fazio Senior Lecturer at Victoria University. Professor Aladin Zayegh, Associate Professor at Victoria University gave the call to prayer and recited several verses from the Quran; and a welcome speech was presented by Vice- Chancellor of Victoria University Professor Peter Dawkins and Ahmet Keskin, Executive Director of Australian Intercultural Society
After dinner a panel discussion moderated by Helen Kapalos, Chair Victoria Multicultural Commission with panellist Kashif Bouns– Western Bulldogs Football Club, Ghasala Naz – Vice-President Victoria University Islamic Student Association and Ghofran Al-Nasiri – Council Member, Victoria University discussed overcoming challenges and inspiring others to be more active in the community.
The evening concluded with audience members having the opportunity to share their reflections on the evening’s program followed by a vote of thanks from Professor Ian Solominides Pro Vice-Chancellor at Victoria University and an exchange of gifts.
