Legal Profession Iftar Dinner 2016

The inaugural 2016 Legal Profession Iftar took place at the Islamic Museum of Australia Thursday; 16 June. Hosted in collaboration with Muslim Legal Network; Law Institute of Victoia and the Australian Intercultural Society (AIS); the event was attended by about 80 guests from all areas of the legal profession.

The MC for the evening was Mrs Samira Zeno from Muslim Legal Network. Welcome remarks were given by Mr Jazeer Nijamudeen;; president of the Muslim Legal Network. Imam Bekim Hassani; the imam from Albanian Australian Islamic Society; gave the call to prayer (adhan) and recited several verses about fasting from the Quran.

After dinner; His Honour the Chief Magistrate Peter Lauritsen; offered a keynote address on ‘Recent Developments at the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria’

The Hon Mark Dreyfus QC; Shadow Attorney-General; offered his reflections on the evening followed by a vote of thanks in concluding the evening by Ahmet Keskin; Executive Director of AIS.
