The Voice To Parliament

The Australian Intercultural Society (AIS) affirms its support for a First Nations Voice to be enshrined in the Constitution. The AIS believes a modern progressive society should be inclusive and cohesive, based on mutual respect and better understanding of one another. An affirmative vote also provides an opportunity to enhance our national unity by ensuring no one is left behind. It gives us a chance to recognise our nation’s ancient beginnings and sets a path towards a future of shared values and aims. This meaningful and structural change will realise the vision outlined in the Uluru Statement, borne from a series of national dialogues generated by our Indigenous people.

In our commitment to promote meaningful and respectful dialogue we also recognise and respect that people may have a diversity of opinions surrounding the referendum. We encourage everyone to engage with care and respect as we navigate through this process with sensitivity and understanding.

In partnership with the Equal Employment Opportunity Network (EEON), AIS and RMIT recently hosted an empowering and thought-provoking event “Conversations from the Heart – Hearing First Nations Voices”.
