Greek delegation 2025 visit

The AIS was fortunate to host another Greek delegation following on from a previous occasion in 2024. In September 2025, Prof Emmanuel Karagiannis and Prof Sotiris Livas, both respected scholars within the Greek academia visited our shores to share their insights about social policy, security, governance and social cohesion in Greece considering the huge number or refugee arrivals in the past few years. The visit also aimed to strengthen ties between Greek and Turkish communities through dialogue and collaboration.

Their program featured meetings with parliamentarians, judiciary, academics, media, and community groups. A key highlight was the panel organised by the Advocates for Dignity and Monash University, proudly supported by the AIS titled “Navigating Displacement & Belonging : Comparative Perspectives on Refugee Integration in Greece & Australia” at Monash University, where experts explored shared challenges in migration and refugee policy.

This visit deepened connections between Australia and Greece while underscoring shared values of mutual respect, compassion and resilience. Prof Karagiannis and Prof Livas both commented on the importance of sharing information to get to know one another in our interconnected world and that these visits enhance our lived experience and understanding of each other.
