Community Tree Planting with Melbourne Water

Melbourne Water and Nature West provided an opportunity for community members to plant some trees and various plants at Skelton Ck reserve at Hoppers Crossing. The initiative garnered wide scale support as members from the community learnt about optimal water usage and care for the environment. Families were planting for the future as both parents and kids were doing their bit to help the grow and care for the environment. The day finished off with a sausage sizzle and plenty of conversation. Apart from the cold weather, everything was fantastic and worth repeating.

Melbourne Water’s Manager Diversity and Inclusion, Jill Sears, said it was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to meet new people, enjoy the outdoors and have a positive impact on the local environment.

“It was a fun and relaxed atmosphere in which people of all ages made a valuable contribution to the future health of the Skeleton Creek area,” Ms Sears said.

“There was plenty of enthusiasm. Together, we got 1,300 indigenous grasses and plants in the ground and had meaningful conversations about water catchment management, native habitats and caring for our environment.”

The feedback from volunteers on the day “It’s awesome that AIS and Melbourne Water have come together to provide a platform for the local community to get together and plant some trees” Erhan Eryigit
